The University of Guelph Gryphons men’s basketball team has announce the commitment of nine future recruits for the 2013-14 season.

“We are extremely excited about this recruiting class,” said University of Guelph men’s basketball head coach Chris O’Rourke. “We are adding skill and depth. This group brings a little bit of everything to our squad, they have a bright future and fit flawlessly into our goals toward an OUA championship run.”

Hometown native Erik Sterne is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard joining the Gryphons from Centennial High School in Guelph.

"Erik is a local player that choose to stay home which we are excited about, his ability to shoot the ball will add to our depth and address one of the needs we had going into this recruiting season," said O’Rourke.

In 2011, Sterne was named the Most Valuable Player in District-10 basketball.

He will be studying Commerce at the University of Guelph.
