24 curling teams will be looking to take a step closer to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, when the ‘Road to the Roar’ Pre-Trials get underway on Tuesday, November 5th at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

Twelve men’s foursomes and twelve women’s rinks will play off for two berths into the ‘Roar of the Rings’ Canadian Curling Trials, in Winnipeg the first week of December.  The Trials will decide Canada’s teams to compete for Olympic gold in Sochi.

The women will include former Wilfrid Laurier curler Laura Crocker, who now resides in Edmonton.  Crocker won two CIS Championships while curling for the Golden Hawks.  She also captured a Canadian Junior Championship and a silver medal at the World Juniors.

There are also indications that ex-WLU curler John Morris will curl for Jim Cotter’s men’s team out of Kelowna, BC.  The Canadian Curling Association says that Morris will join the Cotter team, after recently parting ways with 2010 Olympic Gold Medallist Kevin Martin of Alberta.

The format for the Pre-Trials will see teams play a modified triple-knockout draw in Kitchener, Nov. 5th-10th.  Two men’s and two women’s rinks will earn berths in Winnipeg.
