A Waterloo Regional Police officer was injured Thursday night when he was struck by a vehicle in southwest Kitchener.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. in the ditch near Bleams and Trussler roads, closing that intersection for a period of time.

The officer, who had been investigating a previous crash, was taken to hospital for treatment, and later released.

That crash was one of dozens reported over the dinner hour as flurries suddenly sprung on the region.

Whiteout conditions were reported on Highway 7/8 west of Kitchener, with multiple cars ending up in ditches.

Near Nafziger Road, one vehicle even rolled over.

Weather is also considered a factor in a crash at Waterloo Street and Forrest Avenue in New Hamburg, where a vehicle hit a woman pulling two children through the crosswalk in a wagon.

All three were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
