Ontario's police watchdog is investigating a collision in Brantford that left a man and a woman seriously injured.

The Special Investigations Unit is probing what happened Sunday afternoon when a Brantford police officer tried to stop a pickup truck.

Brantford police told the SIU that instead of stopping, the truck sped up, made a U-turn and then collided head-on with another pickup that was stopped at a corner.

The occupants of both vehicles were taken to hospital but only those in the first truck -- the 35-year-old driver and his 28-year-old passenger -- sustained serious injuries.
