An elderly woman was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital on Wednesday following a three-vehicle collision in Waterloo’s north end.

The crash occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. at King Street North and Northland Road, north of Northfield Drive.

A total of five people were injured, three of whom were taken to hospital.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, the collision began with a Cadillac vehicle eastbound on Northland and a Hyundai northbound on King.

“We’re trying to determine who had the green light,” Acting Sgt. Tim Boniface said at the scene.

After that, Boniface said, the Cadillac ended up crashing into a third vehicle which was stopped for a red light.

King Street was closed in the area into the afternoon, with drivers asked to find alternate routes.
