Two pedestrians were seriously hurt Thursday night when they were hit by vehicles in different parts of Cambridge.

The first collision occurred around 9:40 p.m., on Ainslie Street near the bus terminal.

Waterloo Regional Police say a pedestrian crossed Ainslie in front of an oncoming vehicle.

The 59-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for major injuries.

Police say they’re continuing to investigate, and poor visibility due to heavy rain may be a factor.

Two hours later, a 55-year-old pedestrian was hit by a minivan while crossing Hespeler Road in a crosswalk at Avenue Road.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the van, a 56-year-old man from Brampton, was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and making an improper left turn.
