The restaurant industry is looking to hire.

Local restaurants and fast food franchises have been looking to hire both full- and part-time staff, but managers say they're not having any luck finding and keeping employees.

Most hires are students but the back to school season is slowing the process.

Restaurant owners say part of the struggle is an abundance of new restaurants in Waterloo region, and those in the industry who are often paid minimum wage will job hop until they find a one that pays better wages.

Mother's Pizza is opening a new location in Waterloo and the manager says it's been a challenge to fill 40 jobs.

The restaurant held a job fair in order to recruit staff after classified and online ads received little response.

With another school year underway and Christmas three months away, managers are feeling pressure to hire the staff they need to make it through the season.
