Late in the evening on Canada Day, a number of people at Riverside Park in Cambridge stopped celebrating the holiday and started looking for a missing child.
A five-year-old had been reported missing, prompting police and other people at the park to begin looking for the child.
Friday, Waterloo Regional Police said that there never was a missing child and the person who reported it made the story up.
A 25-year-old woman from Cambridge is charged with public mischief.
