Monday fell just short of bringing Waterloo Region its second temperature record in three days.

The highest temperature ever recorded on Sept. 25 in the region was 31.2 C, which was experienced in 2017.

Late Monday afternoon, readings at the Region of Waterloo International Airport topped out at 31.1 C.

A record was set on Saturday, when the daytime high of 30.5 C topped the existing record of 28.4 C, which was set in 2004.

While Sunday was even warmer, with the mercury topping out at 32.5 C, that temperature was not a record for Sept. 24. On that day in 1941, temperatures in the region hit 32.8 C.

Temperatures are expected to remain high for another day or two before temperatures more in line with the end of September arrive.

For Waterloo-Wellington, Environment Canada is forecasting highs of 31 C, 29 C, 20 C and 16 C for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday respectively.
