An RCMP officer suffered minor injuries after she accidentally shot herself in London on Friday.

“During the training session there was what we would describe as an unintentional discharge, so an accidental discharge which means… the pistol that one of the members was using accidently discharged," explained Sgt Robert Rollings with the RCMP.

The officer was taking part in annual firearms qualification testing when she accidentally shot herself in the knee.

The Mounties have launched an investigation to see if the gun malfunctioned or if it was officer error. London police are also investigating as the incident happened at their facility.
