Demonstrators gathered at Kitchener City Hall on Saturday to bring attention to suffering of Rohingyas in Myanmar.

“They just don’t think we are human,” says Anwar Arkani. “They treat us like insects. People are getting killed day and night. Their houses are being burned.”

Rohingyas make up a small minority in Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma. They aren't recognized under the 1982 Burmese Citizenship Law, making them stateless. They’re not allowed to travel or own land. They're also forbidden from having more than two children.

Dozens of families protested the abuse, rape and executions of the Rohingyas.

They say Myanmar’s new leader has not addressed the situation, which they’re calling “genocide.”

Demonstrations have also been held in Ottawa and Toronto.

Protestors hope the Canadian government will take action to save their loved ones lives.
