A man who allegedly violated both criminal law and one of the Ten Commandments was apprehended by a priest at a Catholic church in Kitchener.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, a service was underway Tuesday evening at St. Joseph’s Church on Madison Avenue when a man entered the building through a back door.

The man allegedly gathered up a laptop computer and other electronics – which is when the priest noticed the 40-year-old, stopped preaching and ran after him.

“The priest and other members of the congregation … approached the man and apprehended him, and held onto him until police arrived,” said Staff Sgt. Mike Haffner.

The man, whose name was not released, faces charges of breaking and entering, theft and possession of stolen property.
