PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Premier Dalton McGuinty is flatly rejecting a report claiming his government's decision to scrap two gas plants will cost taxpayers at least $1.3 billion.

Well-respected energy industry watchdog Tom Adams says the total cost of cancelling the energy projects in Oakville and Mississauga is more than $1 billion higher than the $230 million the government claims.

Speaking in Peterborough today, McGuinty dismissed Adams' calculations out of hand.

They are based on 56,000 documents the Liberal government released on the gas plants to comply with a Speaker's ruling.

The premier said he hasn't seen anything in them to back up suggestions his office made promises to the developer of the Oakville project that hurt the Ontario Power Authority's negotiating position on behalf of taxpayers.

Progressive Conservative energy critic Vic Fedeli says Adams' figures are higher than they have been able to determine, and a good reason for McGuinty to recall the legislature to investigate the real cost of the scandal.
