If you have an important piece of mail to send, you’re almost out of time.

A labour disruption is possible at Canada Post anytime on or after Saturday, as the agency and its union remain at loggerheads over a new contract.

Postal workers represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have been operating without a contract since last summer.

As of Saturday, the union can legally strike and Canada Post can legally lock out its workers.

Although neither side has indicated that a work stoppage is likely, Canada Post says its customers should take precautions in the event of a stoppage.

The agency says Wednesday is the last day to send priority mail, local expedited parcels, or local Xpresspost items and be sure that they will be delivered in the event of a labour disruption.

Should a work stoppage occur, mail would not be picked up or delivered until the situation is resolved.
