More details are coming to light about what brought police to a home in Guelph’s south end on Tuesday.

According to police, officers showed up at 1541 Gordon Street looking for a certain man for unspecified reasons.

“When the officer made attempts to see if that male was home, that’s when the 61-year-old female was located deceased,” Const. Mike Gatto told CTV News.

Information on the woman’s cause of death has not been released, but police say the circumstances are suspicious.

Police later caught up with the man they were initially looking for elsewhere – not far from 1541 Gordon – and arrested him for the initial matter.

Although police say he may be a person of interest in the woman’s death, he does not yet face any charges relating to that incident.

“No one has been charged or arrested in relation to the suspicious death,” said Gatto.

“We still have to determine … what we’re dealing with.”

An autopsy on the 61-year-old woman took place Wednesday.

Following the examination, police did not release the cause of the woman's death, but said it was enough for them to consider her death a homicide.

Through the day Wednesday, a command post remained in place on Gordon Street.

Neighbours told CTV News they knew little about the investigation, nor much about the people who lived inside 1541 Gordon.

“I’ve lived here for five years now. I’ve never met them; I’ve never seen them,” said Mike Bonfield.

“They seem to be pretty reclusive.”
