Waterloo Regional Police Services are asking the public for help in their investigation into two incidents where a man approached children playing outside.

“Some time has passed, we realize we have composite images to go from but they’re not always perfect. We’re hoping that people will take the opportunity to once again review the composite images and see if this is someone who they know, or if they have any information that could help police with this investigation,” said Olaf Heinzel, a spokesperson with the WRPS.

Three children were playing in a creek bed off Parkside Drive in Waterloo on May 19, 2014 when a man approached them, and touched one of the girls.

On June 28, 2014 a man approached two girls playing at a townhouse complex on Holborn Drive in Kitchener, asking them to go to a park with him. The man followed the girls a short distance until they ran for help.

Police say there is a chance that it is the same man in both incidents.

“When one looks at the composites there are some differences, but there are also a lot of similarities,” said Heinzel.

Police are reminding parents to talk to their children about stranger safety.

“The most important thing of course is if they are approached by a stranger to not engage with that person, and to leave the scene as soon as they possibly can with their personal safety in mind and ensure that they report the incident to a trusted adult right away.”
