For the second time in less than two weeks, and the fourth time this year, the same Pharmacare pharmacy in Kitchener has been targeted by thieves.

Waterloo Region police officers responded to the 944 King Street West location just after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

A man was seen entering the pharmacy carrying what looked like a handgun. He then fled the store with an unknown quantity of narcotics. No one was hurt and no shots were fired.

Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says "We also did a search with our canine through certain areas of the city, but at this time the suspect has not been located."

Police aren't ruling out the possibility that the suspect fled in a vehicle, similar to reports from a robbery earlier this month.

Patients at the doctor's office above the pharmacy tell CTV News they heard a loud popping or crashing noise just before the alarms sounded.

Tim Calydon heard the robbery and says "It didn't sound loud enough to be a gunshot, like I say it sounded like possibly, knowing it was a break in it might have been the door there, the noise of them trying to break into the door."

Staff at the pharmacy did not wish to speak on camera, but tell CTV News the suspect is likely the same man who has robbed the pharmacy twice before.

The most recent incident occurred on Dec. 9 when a man armed with a what appeared to be a handgun threatened staff and stole prescription medication.

The man fled on foot, jumped over a wall and then piled into a car with a waiting driver.

Images taken from security video were released by police in that incident.

The same pharmacy was also targeted earlier this year October, and in March when the location was under a different name.

In a very similar incident in October, an armed man threatened staff with a gun and fled with a quantity of narcotics.

In March, a male claimed to have a weapon and demanded drugs. No weapon was seen but the man fled with a quantity of prescription medication.

There were no injuries in any of the robberies, but police are concerned.

"We have individuals that are taking narcotics for any number of reasons, none of which are probably very good for our community," Heinzel says.

Police say they are still looking for the person(s) involved in the case.

The suspect in Thursday's robbery is described as a white male, about 5'9" tall, with a medium build and wearing dark clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police, and people are warned not to approach the suspect since he could be carrying a weapon.
