Two dozen charges were laid over the past week by police officers keeping an eye out for driving violations as they patrolled Ingersoll on foot.

Oxford County OPP say the patrols were started after officers noticed “high numbers of people driving and using their cell phones” in recent weeks.

Police issued 17 charges for distracted driving, which carries a penalty of a $490 fine, and seven charges for disobeying a sign, for which the fine is $110.

OPP say distracted driving is one of the leading causes of death on the roads, and will be one of the behaviours they’ll be watching out for over the Civic Holiday weekend.
