Firefighters were called to two Waterloo homes early Sunday morning after receiving reports of a fire.

The first call, at 4:41 a.m., was from a resident on John Street.

They said they saw a man throw something at the porch of a neighbouring home.

But when firefighters and police arrived, there was no fire.

Firefighters received a second call just minutes later.

A car parked in front of an Allen Street West home was engulfed in flames.

The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire.

Police aren’t sure if the two incidents are connected but are treating both as suspicious.

The man seen running away from John Street is described as:

  • Early 20’s
  • White
  • Approximately 6’0
  • Wearing a baseball cap and shorts

Anyone who was in the area at the time is asked contact Waterloo Regional Police.
