Police say human remains found in an area of the Eramosa River in Guelph on Saturday, is the body of missing person Cody Thompson.

24-year-old Thompson was reported missing on April 11, 2016.

He was last seen on April 1, 2016 in the area of Willow and Dawson Road.

A person was walking along the river and spotted the body in the water.

Last week Thompson’s family, friends and the community had formed a group to search the river and surrounding areas, but had no luck.

Several people have posted condolences to his family via Facebook.

Thompson's brother Brock Hemming said his family is thankful for the police and the community.

"We're thankful to have some closure in the matter and we're thankful to all the volunteers and at this point we ask for some privacy," said Hemming

“I’m sad for sure, but I’m happy for the family that they can maybe get a bit of closure,” said Pam Mundy, who helped search for Thompson.

“At least now they can have a memorial or celebration of his life with him and not have to go on wondering where he is or what happened to him,” said Mundy.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. They have not released the exact location along the river where Thompson was found.
