The woman killed in a two-vehicle collision east of Listowel has been identified as a 69-year-old woman from West Grey.

Wellington County OPP say Brenda Jones was the passenger in a minivan that was hit by a pickup truck that had run a stop sign.

Jones' husband, who was driving the minivan, was also taken to hospital but suffered only minor injuries.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday, on Wellington Road 9 at Concession Road 6, north of Conestogo Lake and south of Moorefield.

Kim Martin lives at the intersection where the collision happened. She was in her kitchen when she thought she heard a car door slam.

“I went outside and I heard a horn going and it wasn't stopping,” Martin said.

When she got to the scene to help, the Jones’ were still in the minivan.

“He told me to go in and talk to his wife to keep her calm, so I did that and just told her help was on the way and within 5 minutes fire truck was there then ambulance and police,” Martin said.

Witnesses say the driver of the pickup truck ran a stop sign, and collided with the minivan.

The driver of the pickup was not seriously hurt.

Police say they’re still investigating the collision and expect to lay charges.
