A Fergus man faces charges after allegedly driving while impaired and attempting to run away from police.

Guelph Police say they stopped a vehicle on Woolwich Street at 1:30 a.m. Friday, because they suspects its driver was impaired.

The vehicle slowed down and stopped, police say, but the driver then allegedly got out of the car and left the scene on foot.

A canine unit was called in, and tracked down the man allegedly hiding in nearby shrubbery.

The 29-year-old man is charged with impaired driving, escaping custody, breaching an undertaking and driving while suspended.
