Two Stratford Police cruisers were damaged as officers tried to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Waterloo Region.

The vehicle in question was a station wagon, which police spotted driving with a pickup truck near Erie and St. Patrick streets around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

When the pickup truck turned onto Erie, police pulled it over.

Its driver was arrested, as officers learned that both vehicles had been reported stolen – the truck from just outside the city, and the station wagon from Waterloo Region.

He now faces charged including theft, mischief, possession of stolen properyy, possession of break-and-enter tools, and driving while under suspension.

Not long after, police officers caught up with the station wagon and attempted to stop it.

Instead of stopping, police say, it hit several cruisers, entered a ditch, ended up back on the road and sped away.

The older model, silver-coloured Ford station wagon was last seen heading eastbound on Lorne Avenue.
