A boat from the Brantford Fire Department was used to take a man into custody following a police chase in that city.

Brantford Police say they were called to a business on Erie Avenue a little after 3 p.m. Tuesday, in response to an alarm activation.

Once at the business, they learned that police officers from Niagara Region had been there searching for a man wanted for alleged thefts in that area.

When the man saw the Niagara officers, police say, he ran out of the business, and into the nearby Grand River.

Police surrounded the man as he remained in the water.

Eventually, he surrendered. A search of his vehicle allegedly turned up power tools and other items that had previously been reported stolen.

The 31-year-old Ohsweken man was taken to Niagara Region by police.
