A series of 13 separate break and enters since last Friday have residents shaken and police warning people in Brantford to be on the alert.

In the city’s south end seven homeowners reported have backyard sheds broken into, some by force and others through unlocked doors.

Meanwhile six homes in the north end were also targeted. In three of the break-ins, the residents were home at the time of the incident.

Brantford Police Const. Natalie Laing says in one case “The homeowner was at home sleeping at the time. The homeowner heard the dog acting suspicious, strange, barking. The homeowner woke up and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.”

However, she later realized someone had broken in and stolen some of her possessions.

It is possible additional homes have been targeted, and investigators are asking people to contact them even if it was only an attempted theft.

Police continue to investigate and are asking people to lock windows and doors, ensure outdoor lighting is working properly and ask friends to check in if they will be away.

While police do not want homeowners to confront potential suspect(s) they are asked to contact police if they see suspicious vehicles or activity.
