One person was found dead inside a home in Guelph’s south end Tuesday morning.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to 1541 Gordon Street around 10 a.m.

Inside the home, one person was found dead – sparking a police investigation that would last for much of the rest of the day.

At the height of the police presence, there were more than 15 police vehicles in the area and Gordon was shut down entirely between Clairfields and Heritage drives.

Asked why one death warranted such a sizable response, police said it was because they weren’t sure of the circumstances surrounding the death.

“We didn’t know exactly what we were dealing with when we first got here,” said Const. Mike Gatto.

“Initially, when you have a situation like this, you always err on the side of caution.”

Further information about the person found dead and the cause of death was not immediately available.

Neighbours told CTV News an elderly woman lived inside the home.

Witnesses also said they saw authorities removing two dogs from the home.

Public safety was not at risk during any point of the day, police said.
