Construction is underway on a significant addition to PepsiCo’s operations in Cambridge.

The Bishop Street North plant, which produces chips sold under various Frito-Lay brands, broke ground last week on a new, 144,000-square-foot warehouse building.

“Over the next few years we will be making considerable investment to expand and modernize our Cambridge manufacturing plant,” a company spokesperson said in an email.

“This investment enables broader product offerings and freshness, while improving speed and accuracy of customer service.”

The new building is expected to be complete by late 2018.
