It’s time for Waterloo Region’s drivers to learn another detour.

Starting June 1, a highly travelled stretch of Victoria Street in Kitchener will be closed to traffic as construction of the Ion light rail transit line moves into a new area.

The affected section is between Duke and Joseph streets, including the busy intersection of Victoria and King streets.

The closure is expected to last until late September.

Drivers are recommended to detour around the closure via Water Street, which is expected to reopen by the time Victoria closes.

Pedestrian access will be maintained around the closure.

In 2014, approximately 20,000 vehicles travelled the affected stretch of Victoria on an average day, according to data from the Region of Waterloo.
