Thursday night and Friday morning, Guelph Police executed search warrants at four homes in various parts of the city.

It was part of what the organization calls Project Ice – an investigation launched in December into the rise of crystal meth use in Guelph.

Six people – five from Guelph and one from the Sudbury area – were arrested and charged with drug offences.

“Most of the trafficking that we’re talking about here is crystal meth, however there was also some cocaine, heroin and marijuana involved,” said Const. Mike Gatto.

“This is just a drop in the barrel (but) every time we do something in regards to crystal meth, it’s going to help.”

Since Project Ice began, police say, it has led to the seizure of 134 grams of crystal meth, as well as other drugs, stolen property, and $9,400 in cash.

“Last night was not the end of it,” Gatto said Friday.

According to police, the rise in local crystal meth consumption – almost three times as much was seized by police in 2014 as in 2013 – has led to an increase of violence among members of Guelph’s “drug subculture.”
