Already facing three criminal charges, a Kitchener nurse appeared in court Friday to have fraud added to the list.

Kelly Reinhart was charged in April with theft, possession of stolen property and uttering a forged document.

The 35-year-old is accused of stealing pain medication meant for one of her patients at the Lanark Heights long-term care facility.

Reinhart then forged a medical record in the patient’s name, the document indicting her claims.

The patient – a woman in her 90s – died four days later.

Speaking to CTV news, officials at Lanark Heights said the patient’s death was not due to Reinhart’s alleged actions.

In an email, Lanark Heights administrator Hildy Nickel said Reinhart worked part-time at the home for eight months.

“She is no longer employed by the home,” Nickel wrote.

The College of Nurses of Ontario is conducting its own separate investigation.

As of Friday, the college’s website listed Reinhart as a registered nurse entitled to practice with no restrictions.

According to the Crown prosecutor on the case, Reinhart acquiesced Friday to a judge’s order barring her from working in any place where she has access to prescription drugs.
