Grass fires kept firefighters busy Saturday.

A fire on West River Road South in Ayr spread across 25 acres before crews could contain it.

Several stations responded to the fire, which mostly affected a corn field.

North Dumfries Fire says the damage to the property was minimal. There is no word on what caused the fire.

In Wellesley, firefighters were called after a controlled burn got out of hand.

“We saw flames shooting about eight feet tall,” said neighbour David Millard.

“With the windy day, and the sparks, and the dry pine needles it turns into a concern,” he said.

Weimer line was closed while firefighters worked to get the flames under control.

No one was injured. There is no word on how much damage the fire caused.
