The Six Nations Fire Department say they've responded to yet another structure fire in the area.

Just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday, four Six Nations Fire Stations responded to a reported structure fire on Second Line Road in the Six Nations of the Grand River territory.

Crews say they arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a fully engulfed trailer which was the home of a man and his girlfriend.

Due to the intensity of the flames, officials say those first to arrive were unable to perform a primary search, and were unsure if anyone was inside – it was later determined that the trailer was empty.

“I came running out the laneway and looked out there and seen that their trailer was on fire,” said Adrian Battlewarchief, who lives across the street.

There is some concern because the residents, Karl Bush and Debra Miller have yet to be contacted.

Neighbours say Miller hasn’t been seen for about two weeks.

In a release, Six Nations fire officials say a report was made by neighbours that "screaming and yelling" could be heard coming from the trailer home fire area, possibly the night before the fire occured.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have also been brought in to help investigate.

The fire was put out in under an hour, and crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby home.

“We ain’t seen them in about two weeks or so, so we was worried. You know, we got worried and feared the worst,” said Battlewarchief.

Officials are on the hunt for a serial arsonist; this is the ninth suspicious fire to occur in the last few months.

“At this time, this is under suspicion for being another arson fire,” said Matthew Miller, Fire Chief for the Six Nations Fire Department.

Most of the previous fires were in abandoned buildings set at night.

Miller says the fires are getting worse, citing that a recent fire set to a rental property had only been vacated days before.

There is a joint arsonist investigation underway with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office, anyone with information is asked to call Six Nations Police or the fire department.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of either Debra Miller or Karl Bush is asked to contact Six Nations Police at 519-445-4054.
