As of 4:23 p.m. Thursday, Waterloo Regional Police had responded to more than 90 vehicular collisions over the course of the day.

The high level of collisions was due to a series of snow squalls causing blowing snow and occasional whiteout conditions, particularly in rural areas.

While those collisions were reported in all corners of the region, northern townships appeared to be among the most affected.

Several busy rural roads were closed for hours during the afternoon, including parts of Northfield Road, Sawmill Road, Arthur Street and Herrgott Road.
