A Woodstock-area company has been fined a total of $217,000 for not following orders issued by provincial inspectors.

According to Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the fine was levied recently by a justice of the peace in Woodstock court.

Nith River Petroleums Ltd. received three separate fines – $83,000 for not plugging a well that was no longer being used for production, $74,000 for not replenishing a security fund, and $60,000 for not following the proper process to suspend six different wells.

The ministry says the orders were issued in May 2013, and were found not to have been carried out on a follow-up inspection in 2014.
