Haldimand County paramedics say that a motorcycle rider lost his leg below the knee and had to have the other one amputated after he lost control of his bike at a race track near Cayuga Friday night.

The incident happened on the drag strip last night around 9:00 p.m. at the Toronto Motorsport Park, south of Cayuga.

OPP say when the 27-year-old man from Whitby crashed he was thrown from his bike.

Manager of Emergency Services, Haldimand County Rob Grimwood said, "I can confirm that our paramedics on scene reported that there was a complete amputation of one leg below the knee and a partial amputation of the other leg below the knee."

Paramedics say he was first taken to West Haldimand Hospital in Hagersville but then airlifted to the trauma unit at Hamilton General Hospital.

The circumstances that led to the crash are not immediately clear.

Toronto Motorsport Park has declined to comment.
