Heading into the home stretch of the Waterloo Regional Police gun amnesty month, more than 180 weapons and 5,400 rounds of ammunition have been collected through the program.

As of Friday – the 28th of the 30 days of the amnesty – police say 125 illegal guns, 37 pellet or imitation guns, 20 prohibited weapons, one military ordnance and 5,426 rounds of ammunition.

Anyone looking to get rid of unwanted and/or illegal weapons has until Sunday night to do so without risk of prosecution for possession and storage-related offences.

Police say such items are not to be taken into a police station, and anyone looking to dispose of them should contact police to arrange a pickup.
