A veteran member of Waterloo Regional Police is accused of providing the organization false information about a single-vehicle crash.

Sgt. Michael Allard was arrested and charged Friday in connection with the crash, which occurred in Kitchener in February.

Police allege that Allard misrepresented information about the crash, which occurred while he was off-duty.

“We want to assure our residents that this matter has been thoroughly investigated and we will continue to work with our partners in the criminal justice system for a timely resolution,” Chief Bryan Larkin said in a press release.

Allard, who has been with Waterloo Regional Police for 29 years, will appear in court June 30.

He faces charges of fraud, mischief and obstructing police.

Police are also conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
