A Waterloo Regional Police officer has been charged following an incident in Las Vegas.

According to police, the officer in question has nine years of experience with Waterloo Regional Police and works in neighbourhood policing out of North Division, which is based in Waterloo.

Police call the incident “family-related” and say they are not making the officer’s name public, in order to protect the identity of the victim.

They say the officer has been charged with domestic battery under Nevada law.

The officer has also been suspended from their duties in Waterloo Region, with pay, pending the outcome of the American court proceedings and an internal review.
