One of Canada’s most well known rock groups will take the stage at the Unviersity of Waterloo’s Canada Day celebration.
Tom Cochrane with Red Rider has been announced as the headline act for the July 1 festivities at Columbia Lake.
Cochrane and Red Rider had a string of hits in the 1980s, including “Lunatic Fringe” and “Big League”, with Cochrane releasing “Life is a Highway” and other popular songs during a solo career in the 1990s.
While big July 1 celebrations are planned across the country to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation, two other milestones will be celebrated in Waterloo. This year marks the University of Waterloo’s 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Federation of Students.
The event will also include an appearance by children’s entertainers Bobs and Lolo, as well as a Canada 150 stage featuring indigenous groups and local cultural organizations. More entertainers will be announced closer to the date.
Tens of thousands of people typically attend the event, which ends with a display of fireworks over the lake.
