A collision which kept eastbound lanes of Highway 401 closed near Woodstock for most of Friday morning is being investigated by Ontario’s police watchdog agency.
According to the Special Investigations Unit, the collision occurred as police were attempting to stop a vehicle near Sweaburg Road, at 11:57 p.m. Thursday night.
Police say that as they attempted to pull the vehicle over, it became involved in a three-vehicle collision.
The driver of one vehicle and four people from a second vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment.
Four of the five were released Friday morning.
The fifth, an 18-year-old woman, was said to be in critical condition.
The SIU is asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact their investigators at 1-800-787-8529 ext. 9036.
Highway 401 reopened in the area around 9 a.m. Friday.
