Ontario’s police watchdog agency has been called in to investigate another incident involving Guelph Police.

This case involves a man who claimed to be injured during his May 18 arrest, which occurred early that morning near the corner of Arthur and Elizabeth streets.

A woman was also arrested as a result of that incident, specifics of which were not provided by police.

The man claimed to have been injured during his arrest and was taken to hospital. He was released from care without receiving any treatment.

Several days later, the man returned to hospital. He sought and received treatment, police say.

As a result, police notified Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, which looks into cases in which somebody received serious injuries during an interaction with police.
