Wednesday marked the first day of suspension for more than 1,000 elementary school students across Waterloo Region’s school boards.

According to Region of Waterloo Public Health, a total of 1,021 students were suspended because their vaccination records had not been provided to the health unit.

The suspensions will last for up to 20 days, unless up-to-date records are filed sooner. For students who are missing required vaccinations, the region offers them at a number of walk-in clinics.

The 1,021 students are among 4,442 whose parents were warned of potential suspensions earlier this month.
