Waterloo Region’s new professional basketball team now has a name and a general manager.

Team officials announced Thursday that the squad will be known as the KW Titans, which was picked out of more than 500 entries in a naming contest.

Also announced was the hiring of Stu Julius as the team’s first general manager.

Julius had been serving as an assistant coach with the London Lightning, who will be division rivals of the Titans in the National Basketball League. He’s also a former head coach of the women’s basketball team at Wilfrid Laurier University.

The Titans’ season is scheduled to start Dec. 26. A home arena for the team has yet to be announced.
