Cambridge council has decided not to do a recount in Ward 6, where the incumbent lost by only two votes.

Coun. Gary Price emerged from Monday’s election with 1,456 votes in Ward 6.

Challenger Shannon Adshade finished with 1,458, making him the new councillor-elect for Cambridge’s south end.

Although Price could legally request a recount – as happened in 2010 in a Kitchener ward decided by one vote – he told CTV News that he didn’t plan to do so.

“I have accepted the results from the last six or seven elections that we use the machines to count, so I can’t see why I would not accept it this time,” he said in an email.

“I have enjoyed representing Ward 6 for the last 20 years and hope that Shannon has the same enjoyment.”

Despite Price’s remarks, the city announced Mayor Doug Craig had called a special council meeting for 10 a.m. Friday October 31, where the outgoing council voted on whether to move ahead with a recount.

“Council decided to not proceed with the recount and respect the wishes of Councillor Price,” said Shawn Falcao, with the City of Cambridge.
