Former Stratford Cullitons hockey player, Mitch Vandergunst has had his sexual assault conviction overturned.

He had been sentenced to a year behind bars, but was released on bail pending an appeal.

Now he could be facing a retrial.

The judge ruled that credibility of the complainants was an issue, that there were inconsistencies in the evidence.

In October 2014 Vandergunst was found guilty of two charges of sexual assault.

He now goes back to being charged with sexual assault.

Prosecutors will be left to decide what will happen after the court ordered a new trial.

Vandergunst was released from the Cullitons following his conviction but he is listed as still playing hockey for the Senior Double A Clinton Radars.
