A two-year-old girl who went missing in Brant County has been found after a lengthy search.

Brooklyn Honderich, 2, had last been seen just before 7 p.m. Sunday at a farm in the southwestern end of the county, east of Norwich.

At the time, her parents were working on the farm – her father was milking a cow while her mother helped Brooklyn’s older sister get changed.

“She was playing with the dog, and the dog wandered into the field, and she wandered after it,” father Drew Honderich said.

The girl’s disappearance brought a massive police and volunteer effort to try and find her.

Police brought in a helicopter and canine units as part of their efforts, while volunteers combed through fields inch by inch.

Shortly after 10 a.m., she was found in a bean field by a man who gave his name only as Steve, and who had just signed up as part of the volunteer search.

“We were just walking along the back cornfield, calling her name,” Steve told reporters.

“I said ‘Brooklyn, do you want to go to mommy?’ and I heard a little girl crying. I followed the noise, and it took me right to her.”

The girl was taken to hospital as a precaution, and released later in the day.

Father Drew Honderich said he was grateful for the community support, particularly given his family is new to the area.

“People don’t even know us, and they helped us out,” he said.

“I was told that the community centre was completely packed. That’s completely amazing.”
