Ontario’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate an incident in Delhi which left a man with back and leg injuries.

According to Norfolk County OPP, officers were called to a home in Delhi Sunday evening in response to an alleged assault on a woman.

The man alleged to be behind the attack left the home on foot, prompting a police chase which ended when officers lost sight of the man.

About an hour later, they found him sitting on an embankment and placed him under arrest.

He was then taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

It is not clear how the 31-year-old man became hurt.

Police say their investigation into the initial assault continues, with charges pending.
