A man found dead near train tracks in Guelph last week wasn’t hit by a train after all, Guelph Police say.

Police had previously said that the man was struck and killed by a GO Transit train travelling along the tracks south of Paisley Street, between Alma Street and Silvercreek Parkway.

It’s now believed the man had jumped onto the train as it left the Guelph train station and hid between two cars in a bid to hitch a ride.

Police say the man likely either lost his balance as the train was moving or attempted to jump off the train and slipped.
