A 36-year-old man is accused of stealing $114,000 worth of items from 23 homes in Kitchener and Waterloo.

Waterloo Regional Police say the break-ins all occurred between June 17 and Aug. 4.

Jewellery and electronics were among the items most typically taken, but police say a handgun and sport rifle were stolen in the Aug. 4 incident.

While the handgun was eventually recovered by police, the whereabouts of the rifle – described as a tan-coloured ISSC MSR modern MK 22 sport rifle – are not known.

Police say the estimated total of damage to doors and windows broken in the break-ins is $13,000.

They want to hear from anyone who had items stolen from their home this summer and have not had them returned.
