A Guelph man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with a series of thefts from gyms across the city.

According to police, the first report of items being stolen from changeroom lockers – after the locks on the lockers were cut – came in last week.

Since then, other gyms had reported similar incidents.

“He was basically cutting the locks off lockers in the changerooms, and … taking whatever he deemed of value,” said Const. Mike Gatto.

“Whatever he deemed of value” may have extended to vehicles, as police say they’re aware of two cases in which keys were stolen from lockers, then used to drive away with their respective vehicles.

Wednesday, police performed a search of the 36-year-old man’s home.

“They found everything from identification to bank cards,” Gatto said.

The man faces charges including theft, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a controlled substance and fraud.

Police say they continue to investigate.
